Marsabit County residents celebrated Jamhuri Day that marked 51 years of Kenya’s independence at Marsabit County Stadium. H.E Amb. Ukur Yatani, Governor Marsabit County, Deputy Governor, H.E Abdi Omar, First lady Commissioner Gumato Ukur, Area MP Hon. Dido Rasso, County Commissioner, Peter Thuku, Members of County Assembly, County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers were among the leaders who attended the event today. The celebration also took place at all the 20 wards and the four sub-counties in the larger Marsabit County.
Unlike the previous similar functions that took place in Marsabit during the past last one year, this particular public event took place against the backdrop of a peaceful,calm and serene atmosphere. The morning mist punctuated the tone of the occasion by signalling the return of the lost glory of the once very green and beautiful Marsabit Mountain. Among the various leaders who spoke at this event,the thrust was on peaceful co-existence, development in the key priority areas such as water,agriculture,health,livestock,roads,trade,youth empowerment,FGM,Corruption among other issues.
The Governor said that his government has set aside 20 million scholarship for nursing and teaching courses to help curb the shortage of the professionals in the County subject the passage of a bill on the same by the County Assembly.Another Ksh. 30 Million would be set aside as a loan to support the youth empowerment. He also assented to the Emergency Fund Bill that would help address for the unforeseen emergencies such as drought,famine,floods,conflict,natural disasters among others.
