Dances, songs and ululation last evening rented the air as the resident of Marsabit County welcomed Miss Tourism-Marsabit County, Ms Darmi Jattani Dabasso when she entered the town from Nairobi after she won  five awards during National wide Miss Tourism Competition at KICC.

Ms Dabasso emerged the best in the following; the best grand entry where she rod on a camel decorated with artifacts and County flag, the best in Northern Region Counties, best Culture dress, peace champion-Kenya and overall award for being position six where 42 ladies competed.

Darmi urged people of Marsabit County to co-exist peacefully, adding that unity in diversity should be a new culture that County resident should value and embrace for peace and tranquility to prevail for the realization of development beacons.

While advising county residents against divisive matters that have the capacity to degenerate into community wrangles, Darmi said that it sounds ironic and shameful when the holder of the coveted Miss Peace Tourism Kenya prize hailed from Marsabit County for the last two consecutive years when, on the flipside, peace in Marsabit county had been something of an elusive phenomenon for a long time.

She advised girls and women to be determined in life, saying that the virtue of resoluteness is the strongest power that humans could possess to reach their desired destiny.

Darmi who acknowledged thunderous welcomed from the county residents said she aimed at building peace, promoting culture, local and international tourism among other things.

Miss tourism Marsabit is currently undertaking her degree in veterinary medicine (second year) at the University of Nairobi.

The Marsabit County Executive Member (CEC) for Tourism, Culture and Social Services, Grace Galmo who spoke to the media said that Darmi’s five awards in the national competition must be appreciated and that county residents must be proud of her, adding that she deserves grand reception from her home county.

Galmo said that her department must at all cost accord Marsabit miss tourism 2015 the necessary support to go round schools across the county to encourage girls to provide mentorship talks.

The CEC revealed that on 7th of March Darmi will be in Kalacha (in Maikona ward-Marsabit County) as a motivational speaker during the World’s Women Day sponsored by the Concerns Worldwide.

About 250 girls from across the county will be addressed by the Marsabit County Miss Tourism 2015 as a mentor and a role model to many girls in their life endeavours.
