KMTC board of directors led by Board acting Chair Dr.Eng.David Muthoga and CEO Prof Michael Kiptoo today visited Marsabit County where they were hosted by Deputy Governor H.E Solomon Gubo Riwe. The team discussed on ways of strengthening collaboration to develop KMTC Marsabit campus.

Deputy Governor said that the county Government has already set a side 2.5 acres of the hospital land for the first phase as it secures the other 7.5 acres required. The bill of quantity for tuition block has already been done and it’s construction tenders advertised while the one for hostel and cafeteria has already been done and sent to health department for approval. He assured the team that the county Government is committed enough to see this project succeed.

“The county Government will move with speed to ensure that we meet the conditions set by the board within reasonable time to ensure that we have a functional KMTC college in Marsabit County” He said. The Deputy county chief also said that the campus will offer local youths opportunity to acquire skills in the field of medicine and consequently job opportunities within Marsabit County and beyond.

Speaking during the meeting, the chairperson Kenya Medical Training College Board of Directors Dr.Eng. David Muthoga said that they are happy with the preparations of the county Government and soon the College will open its doors, adding that the status of the County referral hospital with new paediatric ward, maternity wing and the new upcoming research laboratory were satisfactory enough for teaching. He also said that once the institution is completed it will give 30 % of admission slots in the new campuses from the county.

CEO Prof Michael Kiptoo said that KMTC is committed in helping government achieve universal health coverage by training human resource for health.

The team also visited the new site of construction and inspected the status of the general hospital.
