Two thousand and twenty eight (2028) patients have so far been seen, following the two day free medical camp at the Marsabit General Hospital.

The Marsabit County Health Management Team (MCHMT) led by the health director Dr. Adano Qochi, Deputy Directors of medical services, Dr. Ndakalu Manasseh and Dr. Boru Okutu together with other health staff were glad to report that the exercise was successful, attributing the achievement to team spirit embraced by county health fraternity.

According to the Marsabit county deputy director medical services, Dr. Ndakalu Manasseh who shared with the county communication department, the statistics breakdown of the two day free medical camp for those patients seen is as follows: medical (851), obstetrics & gynaecology (337), surgical patients (271), pediatrics (324, ENT (123) and Dental (62).

Surgeries done in the two day free health for all exercise; day-cases (33) and admission (14), and Referrals are as below; surgical (2), pediatrics (2), dental (1) and medical (4).

The health CEC, Mr. Stephen Labarakwe who commended the 17 specialists’ doctors together with the Marsabit County health management fraternity for exemplary services offered said that he has never heard or witnessed such a work done at Marsabit hospital, and thus appealed to the medics to allot time for another visit.

Mr. Labarakwe was happy to tell that the specialists and county health team rendered selfless service to the county residence for the two day exercise, revealing that they worked even past 2.00 Am so as to clear pending surgical cases.

The CEC was also glad to say the exercise has restored public confidence in county residents towards health service delivery, adding that verbal and public comments through local FM stations were highly laudable.

Lots of gratitude also went to the county leadership led by the Governor, Ambassador Ukur Yatani who has been supportive all through, both in the initial planning and execution of the free medical camp that ended successfully.

The county government ensured that all supplies in terms of drugs and non-pharmaceuticals were availed as required.

Some specialists who spoke during the dinner organized at Governor Yatani’s residence said that, as much as they help people, they also learn and that is indeed important in their career progression.

A doctor who acknowledged Marsabit people for remarkable hospitality said he truly learnt the real meaning of giving back to society when a patient he operated called him my son and thanked him, what really touched him deeply, and he assured of coming back to the county to offer his human service.

The county governor, Ambassador Yatani who was indeed impressed by the specialists’ selfless service appealed for the doctors’ similar camp in Laisamis, Kalacha and Moyale Hospital, and he was optimistic that over 50 health specialists will come and make people in desperate situation happy.

Specialists’ doctors were awarded with certificates and little motivations.

During the dinner, Konso dancers entertained the health specialists and county staff.
