Marsabit county breathes new life into nyayo road after heavy rains.

The County Government of Marsabit has moved decisively to restore dignity, mobility and normalcy to residents of Nyayoroad Village after undertaking major improvement works on the 2.5-kilometre Nyayo Road stretch that was badly damaged by the recently ended rains.

For weeks, residents endured great hardship as the rains left the road almost impassable. What was once a vital access route for families, traders, learners, motorists and service providers had been reduced to a difficult path marked by boulders, debris, ditches and gullies. Movement of people, goods and services was severely disrupted, exposing residents to unnecessary suffering during the rainy season.

But with the rains now over, the county government of Marsabit has responded with urgency and purpose, deploying machinery and technical teams to rehabilitate the road and restore safe access to the village.

The works included mechanical clearance of boulders and debris, grading and gravelling from Asafa Garage to Alrahman Madrassa along Nyayo Road, as well as additional grading works covering 1.2 kilometres from Gof Hotel to Kiwanja Ndege Primary School. In total, the intervention covers 2.5 kilometres.

The county has also undertaken rock filling of ditches and gullies along the Nyayo Road section, together with stone pitching to line side drainages. These works are not only meant to reopen the road but also to strengthen it against future damage by storm water.

Speaking on the project, the Chief Officer for Roads and Transport , Dr. Hitler Rikoi, said the rehabilitation of Nyayo Road is part of a wider countywide programme to repair roads damaged by the recent heavy rainfall.

Dr. Rikoi noted that the County Government of Marsabit is actively grading, gravelling and restoring damaged roads across the county to ensure communities remain connected and residents can move with ease.

He emphasized that the government of Governor Mohamud Ali is fully committed to reducing the burden faced by residents as a result of poor road conditions, especially after the destruction caused by the rains.

According to Dr. Rikoi, the Governor is determined to ensure that damaged roads are repaired, new roads are opened in areas where they do not exist, and existing roads are upgraded to standards that support reliable movement of people, goods and services.

For the residents of Nyayoroad Village, the intervention has come as a major relief. They welcomed the facelift, saying the road had been extensively damaged during the rainy season and had made daily movement extremely difficult.

The residents thanked Governor Mohamud Ali and the County Government of Marsabit for the timely response, describing the rehabilitation as a practical and much-needed intervention that directly addresses the needs of the people.

They said the improved road will ease movement to schools, homes, businesses, religious centres and essential services, while also boosting local trade and social interaction within the area.
