Statement from the CECM Health Services The Department of Health has made remarkable progress in the health sector under the visionary leadership of H.E. Governor Mohamud M. Ali. Our journey toward a healthier community has been driven by collaborative efforts, strategic initiatives, and a steadfast commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for all residents. Under Governor Ali's stewardship, the Department of Health Services has launched a comprehensive modernization initiative, upgrading existing facilities and expanding healthcare access across the county. This initiative has elevated the standards of healthcare provision, ensuring that every resident receives timely and effective medical care. Significant investments in infrastructure have transformed Kalacha, Laisamis, Moyale, and Marsabit County Referral Hospitals into modern healthcare hubs to cater to the evolving health needs of our population. The construction of 23 new dispensaries and 8 maternity wards underscores our commitment to bolstering primary healthcare services and improving maternal and child health outcomes. To support our dedicated healthcare workforce and enhance service delivery, the Department has added 2 general wards and constructed 34 staff houses. These efforts not only elevate the quality of care but also improve the working conditions for our healthcare professionals. Service delivery improvements have ensured that healthcare services are accessible and efficient. Enhancements in the referral system have facilitated the effective management of over 2,877 cases, streamlining the process for patients needing specialized care. Strengthening free ambulance services, coupled with the procurement of two modern ambulances and the establishment of an ambulance maintenance workshop, has bolstered emergency response capabilities, saving countless lives. Our commitment to preventive healthcare is exemplified by our success in immunization coverage, where Marsabit County consistently ranks among the top three performing counties in Kenya. This achievement reflects our dedication to safeguarding the health of our youngest citizens and preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases. The expansion of community health services through the establishment of 13 new community units has brought essential healthcare closer to remote and underserved areas. Empowering Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and Community Health Assistants (CHAs) to provide basic health services and health education at the grassroots level has strengthened the foundation of our healthcare system, fostering community resilience and well-being. The automation of community health services through the Electronic Community Health Information System (ECHIES) has streamlined data management and improved the efficiency of healthcare delivery. The training and equipping of CHAs and CHPs with Android phones have facilitated real-time data collection and decision-making, enhancing the effectiveness of our public health interventions. In our commitment to ensuring universal health coverage, in 2018, the County Government of Marsabit embarked on an ambitious NHIF enrollment drive, aiming to enroll 10,000 residents from each ward annually into the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). This initiative provided financial protection and access to quality healthcare services for all residents, regardless of their socio-economic status. Our efforts in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and tuberculosis (TB) control have yielded significant results, contributing to improved health outcomes and reduced mortality rates. Through targeted interventions and comprehensive treatment programs, we're addressing the burden of NCDs and TB, safeguarding the health and well-being of our population. Our focus on nutrition and malnutrition prevention has led to notable reductions in stunting and acute malnutrition among children under five. The Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) program has successfully treated and discharged thousands of children and mothers, underscoring our commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive. These achievements represent just a fraction of Governor Mohamud Ali's transformative leadership in the health sector. Through innovation, collaboration, and dedication, we are forging a healthier and more prosperous future for the residents of Marsabit County.
